Buyer's Guide to this Suffolk Park Neighbourhood
Kay Wilkie has been living in Byron Bay since 1970 and serving the area since 1987.
Prices have increased massively
Suffolk Park started in the 60’s, the subdivision, so to begin with there was only fishing shacks there.
Then in the 70’s it started to be houses, my husband was a builder, so he built lots of speccies in the 70’s, back then you could buy a block of land for under $8000.
Then in 1980 we went overseas for a few months and when we got back they were up to $30,000 from $8000.
Rents are too high
The rent is just so high, I just spoke to our rental department the other day and she said that she’s got two or three properties at the moment on the books which she can’t rent because the owners want such ridiculous high prices for the rent.
It's sad because it's resulted in a lot of the young people who are renting piling into one place.
High demand from buyers
I have got a house on the market at the moment and I’ve had two open houses and each time I’ve had ten, nine or eight people and I’ve had five or four offers.
There’s a lot of people wanting beachside, there’s a lot young people too, in that mix, a lot of young people that have come to Byron Bay that are quite well off.
It’s just amazing how many young married people that are here that are buying property to renovate and then move on and do it again.
