Buyer's Guide to this Byron Bay Neighbourhood
Kay Wilkie has been living in Byron Bay since 1970 and serving the area since 1987.
Old fibro houses are being replaced with beautiful homes and accommodation
Byron Bay used to be a working town, it wasn’t full of beautiful old federation timber homes, there were a few here but the majority of the houses down close to town were little fibro workers cottages.
A lot of people are coming in and renovating those old homes, whether they were weatherboard or fibro, and are turning them into these amazing holiday destinations like the Atlantic and Byron Palms.
It used to be the wrong side of the tracks
People think of the area around Little Burns Street as being the wrong side of the track - which it used to be in the old days when the train went through and all the poor people lived over here.
There's still some council housing down near the Buddha Bar but houses are selling around them for huge prices, it’s amazing.
Two generations of families are common
I lived next door to a lady, in this area, whose Aunt owned her house where she is and her other Aunty owned the cottage that I just sold here, so there's a lot of people like that, where you have two generations living close to each other.
Backpackers camping on council property
What the council can’t afford to do now which they were doing before, is having a ranger go around and move everyone along on that goes camping in this area.
